Post Leaving Certificate Fees information 2011-12

If you are pursuing a Post Leaving Certificate Course at Level 5 or 6 in Scoil Ruáin there are no tuition fees for EU nationals.
However, there are student services charges, exam fees and a separate PLC Contributions Fee.

FEES
The breakdown of fees is as follows:

Student Services Charge & Materials Fee            € 70
PLC Contributions Fee      (Government Fee)      €200
FETAC Exam Fee                                                      € 50
Total                                                                            €320

NOTES
1. The Student Services Charge covers most course materials
2. The PLC Contribution FEE is a government charge introduced in the 2010
Budget and is payable for ALL PLC courses.
3. The FETAC exam fee of €50 must be paid by all students.

EXEMPTIONS
Students who are entitled to VTOS/BTEA/Medical Card/Grant are exempt from the €200 PLC Contributions fee
Medical Card holders only are exempt from paying the €50 FETAC exam fee.
ALL PLC Students must pay the €70 Student Services Charge.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE
Upon registration in early September you will be required to pay €270 (which includes the PLC Contribution Fee).
The deadline for payment of this fee is Friday 9th of September 2011. The final €50 for FETAC exam fees must
be paid by Friday 13th of January 2011.




FETAC LEVEL 6 CHILDCARE

 

Childcare Supervisor (FETAC level 6) leads to a nationally accredited award in Childcare at supervisory level. This course is of interest to those who are currently working or aspiring to work as a supervisor in a childcare setting. By 2012 a level 6 qualification is necessary in order to access funding under the ECCE scheme.

 

This course comprises of five modules:

 

Supervision in Childcare (D30178)

Students will gain the skills and knowledge required to supervise an ECEC setting and to support others in their role and performance. Identifying strategies for working in partnership with parents/carers and external organisations is an important component of this module.

 


 

Social and Legal Issues in Childcare(D30177)

In this module students examine relevant statutory regulations and voluntary guidelines. They will become aware of the impact of social policy on Childcare. Procedures for dealing with child protection issues are studied, and all students will explore the importance of equality and diversity in their work.

 


 

Child Development (D30005)

This module develops the knowledge and understanding of holistic child development from 0-6 years and develops skills required to implement and promote the use of observations in the early childhood education and care setting.

 


 

Early Childhood Programmes (D30176)

Students gain the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to supervise the implementation of early childhood programmes of learning for preschool children.

 


 

Learning Disability Awareness (L32488)

In this module students look at the difficulties encountered by children/adults with Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Asperger’s Syndrome and AD(H)D. We also explore new approaches and strategies which may address these difficulties.

 


 

Work Experience

Two days per week working at supervisory level. This is a compulsory element of the course.

 


 

Entry Requirements

Level 5 in Childcare Evidence of Garda vetting Two references. Success at interview.

 


 

Course Hours

9.15am to 1.20pm, Monday to Friday from September to May.

 


 

Fees

A fee of €120 applies to all students not eligible for VTOS. This covers the cost of examination fees, books and class materials.
