SCHOOL PROGRAMMES
All the programmes which are available to second level students are offered at Scoil Ruáin.
Junior Certificate
Students take ten subjects in their Junior Certificate - 8 core subjects and 2 subjects chosen from the option blocks. Student preparation for the Junior Certificate examination is supported by regular in-house examinations and monitoring of academic progress by the Year Head and Class Tutors.
Junior Certificate Schools Programme (JCSP)
In addition to the Junior Certificate some students benefit from the support of the Junior Certificate Schools Programme. This is not an alternative programme - the activities of the JCSP are carried out alongside the traditional Junior Certificate Programme.
Leaving Certificate - Traditional
Students choose 7 subjects in total - 3 core subjects and 4 option subjects. In addition students may register for LCVP. A system of continuous assessment during sixth year encourages students to develop effective study habits, to work consistently and to build confidence in their ability to perform in the Leaving Certificate examination.
Transition Year Programme (TY)
TY is an optional programme which has proved extremely beneficial. The TY programme provides students with a diverse range of activities, a broader curriculum and a period of work experience. There is a particular emphasis on education for maturity and increased social competence.
Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA)
The LCA Programme is an alternative approach to Senior Cycle. This programme prepares students to take on the challenges of direct employment whilst also providing opportunities for further training, including progression into third level.
